Search & replace
Opening search (⌘F)
Press ⌘F or click the magnifying glass button in the top-right corner of a chapter view. The Search panel opens on the right, replacing the Scenes panel if it was open.
Press Esc or click the ✕ button to close search.
What search covers
Search runs across the entire novel — not just the current chapter:
| Content | Searched |
|---|---|
| Scene prose | ✓ |
| Draft text | ✓ (result labelled “Draft: {name}”) |
| Note text | ✓ (result labelled “Note”) |
| Scene titles / synopses | ✗ |
Results appear grouped by chapter, with a 60-character context snippet around each match. Search is case-insensitive and diacritic-insensitive (searching “e” matches “é”). A minimum of 2 characters is required.
Navigating results
- Click any result to jump to it — the chapter opens, the matched text is selected, and the editor scrolls to centre it
- Each chapter group header has an “Open chapter” link and a “Dismiss this chapter” button to hide that group from the results
Replace
Click the chevron button or press ⌘⌥F to show the Replace field.
Type a replacement string in the “Replace with…” field.
- Replace All (⌘⌥↩) — replaces all matches in all scene text throughout the novel
Note: Replace only applies to scene text. Matches found in drafts or notes are shown in results for navigation, but the Replace All action only mutates scenes.
