Notes

Notes are a place for anything that supports the writing but isn’t part of the story itself — research, character sketches, timeline reminders, ideas that arrived at the wrong time.

Scope

Notes are per-chapter. Each chapter has its own set of notes, separate from every other chapter. There is no global notes view across the whole novel, but the Part overview (see below) lets you browse all notes in a part at once.

Opening notes (⌘2)

Click the Notes capsule button in the chapter toolbar, or press ⌘2. The Notes panel slides down below the toolbar as a horizontal row of cards.

The capsule shows a count of how many notes the chapter has.

Creating a note

Writing a note

Click a note card to edit it. Notes are plain text — no formatting, no special markup required.

Deleting a note

Click the trash icon on a note card, or right-click → Delete Note. Deletion is immediate.

Notes in the Part overview

When a Part is selected in the outline, the Part overview’s Notes tab shows all notes in that part laid out in a four-column grid, grouped under their chapter headings. Each chapter group has its own Add note button.

This view is useful for scanning reference material across multiple chapters without having to open each one.
