Progress & word goals
Stats block
Hover the bottom-left corner of any open chapter to reveal the stats block. It expands to show three metrics, each broken down into four tiers:
| Metric | Tiers |
|---|---|
| WORDS | Selection → Scene → Chapter → Total novel |
| CHARS | Selection → Scene → Chapter → Total novel |
| PAGES | Selection → Scene → Chapter → Total novel |
Pages are estimated at 100 words per page (minimum 1 if the scene has any text).
Notes and drafts are excluded from all counts — only story scene text is counted.
Session delta
The WORDS row includes a session delta: the number of words written (or removed) since the current chapter was opened. It appears as +N (green) or -N (red) with the label “this session”.
This counter resets each time you open the chapter.
Daily word goal
Set a daily writing goal from the View menu:
- View → Set Daily Word Goal… — opens a dialog to enter a word count
- View → Change Daily Word Goal (N words)… — updates the existing goal
- View → Clear Daily Word Goal — removes the goal
The goal dialog explains: “Enter the number of words you want to write today. The progress bar appears in the stats block when you hover over it.”
When a goal is active, the stats block shows an additional progress bar under the WORDS row when hovered. It fills based on your session delta — words written since the chapter was opened today — compared to the goal.
When you reach the goal, the bar shows “Goal reached!” instead of “N to go”.
The goal is stored per device (@AppStorage) and applies to all projects.
Chapter cursor bar
The 4 px bar at the very bottom of the chapter window shows your cursor’s position within the chapter as a proportion of total character length — a quick visual indicator of how far through the chapter you are.
