What is Cora Novel?
Cora Novel is a writing editor for macOS designed specifically for long-form fiction. It organises your manuscript into Parts, Chapters, and Scenes, and keeps everything in a clean, distraction-free interface. No formatting. No AI. No cloud subscriptions.
Who is it for?
Anyone writing a novel — first-timers and working authors alike. If you find general-purpose editors like Word or Pages get in the way of the actual writing, Cora is built for you.
Is Cora free?
Cora is a $25 paid app available on the Mac App Store. There is no subscription — you pay once and own it.
Platform
What platforms does Cora support?
macOS only, for now. An iOS / iPadOS version is on the roadmap but has no release date yet.
What macOS version is required?
macOS 15 Sequoia or later.
Writing & structure
How is a project structured?
Every project is a novel file (.cora) that contains Parts → Chapters → Scenes.
You can drag and reorder any of them. Each Chapter also has its own Drafts and Notes attached.
What is the difference between Drafts and Notes?
Notes are for anything that isn’t the main story text — research, character details, ideas, reminders. Drafts are alternative versions of a chapter: cut passages, rewrites, experiments you’re not ready to delete.
Does Cora support Markdown?
No. Cora is a plain-text editor — what you type is exactly what gets stored. There is no Markdown rendering, no bold or italic shortcuts, no heading styles, and no hidden formatting. The focus is entirely on the words themselves, not how they look on screen. When you export to PDF or ePub, typography is handled by the export settings, not by inline markup in your manuscript.
Import & Export
What formats can I import?
Word (.docx), Pages, Google Docs (via share URL), and plain text files or folders.
When importing a folder of .txt files, sub-folders become Parts and files become Chapters.
What formats can I export to?
PDF (with custom typography, cover image, and running headers), ePub, Word (.docx),
and a plain-text folder. Each chapter becomes its own file in the folder export.
Privacy & data
Does Cora use AI?
No. Cora has no writing assistant, no autocomplete, and no generation of any kind. Your words are entirely your own.
Where are my files stored?
Wherever you save them — your local disk or iCloud Drive. Cora does not have its own cloud storage and never uploads your writing to any server.
Does Cora sync between devices?
Yes, through iCloud Drive. Save your .cora file to your iCloud Drive folder and it
will be available on all your Macs signed in to the same Apple ID.
